Kochi: As the water level in Idukki dam is nearing at the maximum level of storage, the Kerala State Electricity Board sounded High Alert.
The water level in Idukki reached 2402.2 feet by 8 PM. If the water flow from the catchment area will remain as same, it will reach the maximum storage capacity of 2403 feet this night itself, reveled a KSEB official.
At present, 1.5 lakh liters of water are released out through Cheruthoni dam per hour. The KSEB is in the process of raising it to 20 lakh liters. However, the district administration strongly opposing this move, as it will increase the havoc in the downstream.
100 cm rain is recorded in the catchment area of ​​Idukki dam today. The KSEB wanted to lift the five shutters of Cheruthoni dam to four meters to overcome the current situation. The stand of the Dam Safety Authority will be crucial in this regard.
