WASHINGTON: The US has introduced restrictions against more than 500 private individuals and legal entities on the second anniversary of the onset of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine and over the death of blogger Alexey Navalny, the press service of the US Department of the Treasury said.
According to its statement, the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) together with the US Department of State "are sanctioning over 500 targets," additionally, 90 companies have been included in the list by the Department of Commerce. The Treasury stressed that "this is the largest number of sanctions imposed" since February 2022.
The statement noted that over Navalny’s death, the Department of State had introduced restrictions against "three Government of Russia officials." The Treasury emphasized that the restrictions affected companies in Russia’s financial sector and more than two dozen companies in Europe, East Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East purportedly aiding in circumventing the sanctions as well as "hundreds of entities in Russia’s military-industrial base and other key sectors.".
