BRUSSELS: The European Commission (EC) plans to provide Kiev with 4.5 billion euros in aid in March and 1.5 billion more in April, EC Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said during his visit to Kiev, as quoted by the press service of the European Commission.
"The European Commission will provide the first payment in the context of the [Ukraine] Facility [a total amount of €50 billion until 2027] later this month, of €4.5 billion followed by another €1.5 billion in April," Dombrovskis said.
Dombrovskis pointed out that the disbursements "will be linked with the implementation of the Ukraine Plan," on which the European Commission is "working very intensively" with that country’s government. The plan calls for fast-tracking the reforms and changes that Brussels has been pushing for.
Earlier, a diplomatic source in Brussels told TASS that the amount of the 4.5-billion-euro tranche expected in March is explained by the fact that the European Commission "plans to provide Kiev with budgetary support at the level of 2023, which is 1.5 billion euros per month."
Military aid
Dombrovskis promised that "for this year, EU Member States are planning some €21 billion" in military aid.
"This is based on partial information so that the actual amount will be even more," he added.
According to the official, since the launch of the special military operation, the EU member states collectively provided 28 billion euros in military aid, while total EU support to Ukraine amounts to more than 88 billion euros now.
