MOSCOW: The growing number of challenges and threats in Eurasia requires additional attention from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Imangali Tasmagambetov, the organization's secretary general, said in an interview with TASS.
"The number of threats and challenges in Eurasia is growing; their quality is changing, requiring additional attention from regional organizations," he pointed out. "In general, I believe that as the polycentric system of international relations is being formed, we will face the need to increase the level of responsibility for regional security systems in the foreseeable future, and, perhaps, expand their functionality," the CSTO secretary general added.
According to Tasmagambetov, as far as ensuring regional security goes, changes in the system of international relations "are truly global."
"We can see that the global system for managing international processes is suffering the most and many crises are getting out of control, which is affecting regional security in the most negative way with risks related to transnational threats getting higher," he elaborated. "In such a situation, regional security systems bear the main burden, which makes them search for additional resources, including diplomatic and political ones, as well as to develop new tools and create completely new platforms for interaction. This is exactly the case with the CSTO, too," Tasmagambetov emphasized.
