MOSCOW: Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has sent a telegram of greetings to participants and guests of the 13th International Atomexpo-2024 forum, noting in particular Russia’s active efforts toward boosting the share of nuclear power in the overall domestic energy mix, according to the text of the telegram published on the government’s website.
"The country’s efforts are currently aimed at using alternative sources of energy. The atom is one of them. It has unique features; it is the cleanest [source of energy]; it takes a leading place in terms of minimizing carbon emissions. At the request of the Russian president, active efforts are underway to boost its share in the country’s total energy balance," the statement reads.
Climate change, global warming and other ecological issues taken together have an impact on the environment, the prime minister stressed, adding that it is important that key aspects of the nuclear power sector’s contribution to reducing the carbon footprint will be discussed at the Atomexpo-2024 forum. "Special attention is being paid to the process of shifting to two-component nuclear energy and promising developments in the area of 4G energy generation," the head of the Russian cabinet noted. Forum participants, including representatives of the professional community, leading companies from Russia, CIS countries, Asia, Africa and Latin America, will have an opportunity to discuss relevant tasks, share experience and strengthen partnership relations, he added.
Mishustin expressed confidence that a constructive discussion will take place at the forum, while the initiatives put forward by forum participants will facilitate further development of nuclear technologies and the strengthening of technological sovereignty.
