MOSCOW:  Russian presidential aide and chairman of the Maritime Board, Nikolay Patrushev, has accused the West of attempts to hinder Russia's maritime activities, including by disrupting deliveries of significant cargos.

"The Western countries systematically press for their ideas in the sphere of ocean governance on a global level and seek to position themselves as an international maritime regulator. This policy pursued by the West creates various risks for Russia, such as the disruption of deliveries of significant cargos by sea and the imposition of restrictions on naval activities and other bans on maritime activities," he said at a meeting of the Maritime Board's council on the development of and support for maritime activities.

Patrushev said that in a situation like this Russia should firmly defend its position and prepare tools for the "comprehensive management of maritime activities aimed at ensuring national interests."

Patrushev has visited the office of the United Shipbuilding Corporation in Moscow to look into the activities of the management company and discussed with Board of Directors Chairman Andrey Kostin and USC CEO Andrey Puchkov the corporation’s current operation and development guidelines.
