MOSCOW:  Russian explorer Fyodor Konyukhov, who is approaching a half of his 200-day voyage from South America to Australia on the Akros rowing boat, is going to live for several months on Smolensk (Livingston) Island near Antarctica, head of the expedition headquarters Oskar Konyukhov told TASS.

"Fyodor Filippovich plans to be in nine months in the Antarctic Region on Smolensk Island, which is part of South Shetlands. He wants to live for several months on the island, will do the research and paint pictures. We plan a seasonal station for one person from December 1, 2025 to March 15, 2026," he said.

Representatives of the expedition headquarters will depart to the island for the survey in a fortnight on board of the Amazone expedition yacht, Oskar Konyukhov added.

The explorer currently experiences storms of various intensity but during rare communication sessions he never forgets to ask about preparations for next expeditions.

"Fyodor always does so in challenging projects. It distracts from developments on the boat, gives fuel for thought; he dreams of future expeditions and plans them. It is also now interesting for him how the work is underway to tailor the heat-insulated air balloon to fly across our country from Kirovsk (Murmansk Region) to the Pacific Ocean and to cross the Arabian Peninsula on camels: two thousand kilometers from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea,: Oskar Konyukhov added.
