WASHINGTON: The United States seeks to discuss with Russia not only the issue of frozen Russian assets but also the impact on American companies if the conflict in Ukraine is resolved, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Breitbart News in an interview.
"The president’s talked about that there are opportunities to work together. And obviously that's going to entail talking about not just Russian assets that have been seized by America, by the Europeans or the US, but also American companies that have been hurt. So that'll have to be brought a part of a broader conversation about how to reset our relations," he said.
Rubio emphasized that such talks cannot begin until a sustainable ceasefire is achieved in Ukraine.
Following the start of the special military operation, the EU, Canada, the US, and Japan froze approximately $300 billion in Russian assets. Of this total, around $5-6 billion is held in the United States, while the majority is in Europe, including $210 billion on the Euroclear international platform in Belgium.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned earlier that Moscow would immediately take retaliatory steps against the potential confiscation of its assets abroad.
