MOSCOW: The US agreement to the appointment of a new Russian ambassador speaks to Washington’s commitment to honor the agreements that the countries reached in Riyadh, said, State Duma International Affairs Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky said.

"The US diplomatic note containing an agrement for Alexander Darchiev, which was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry, shows the consistency of the US side in implementing the Riyadh agreements. Moscow and Washington are returning to a normal operation of their diplomatic missions. And this is an important part of establishing a dialogue," he told reporters.

According to the lawmaker, the "diplomatic war" unleashed by Barack Obama in 2014 is coming to an end.

"Alexander Darchiev is a true professional, a most experienced diplomat who is deeply immersed in North American issues. I have no doubt that when appointed as Russia’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the US, he will promptly start discharging his duties and will discharge them extremely efficiently," the lawmaker said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Darchiev is expected to leave for Washington shortly.
