NEW YORK: The United States rejected the proposal of Canada that currently presides in the Group of Seven (G7) to create a team to counter circumvention of anti-Russian restrictions, Bloomberg news agency said, citing sources.
G7 countries are working on a communique on the verge of the foreign ministers meeting to take place in the Canadian Province of Quebec next week.
The US insists on tougher wording in respect of China and at the same time attempts to soften the anti-Russian rhetoric in the communique, Bloomberg said. In particular, Washington blocked the Ottawa’s proposal to establish a team for closing of loopholes in anti-Russian restrictions.
The text of the communique has not been agreed thus far and may be seriously revised, the news agency said. The next G7 foreign ministers meeting will be held from March 12 to 14.
