Thiruvananthapuram: As the coronavirus spreads around the world, millions of expats may return to Kerala. More than 100,000 people registered within hours of opening the NORKA website to collect information on expats seeking to return. Now, officials estimate that the expatriates cannot be brought back without adequate preparation.
At the same time, the irresponsible behavior of those expats who came before them has become a nuisance to those who are to return. At Varkala, one expat under quarantine has been found four times in Varkala Taluk Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, Medical College Hospital and SAT Hospital claiming to be treating the family members. Now this person in tested positive for covid. Similar events had already occurred on the part of the expatriates. Considering all these, the government will decide on bringing more people back.

The registration of NORKA website was facilitated from 6pm yesterday. In five hours, 1,00,750 people registered. The highest number of registered persons came from the UAE - 45,430. A total of 1,668 people from Qatar and 11,365 from Saudi Arabia have already registered to return.
621 registered to return from the UK and 324 registered from the US. Clearly the number of people coming from these countries will increase in coming days.
Though the census is still underway, the central government has not taken any final decision on the issue. States like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana, which are under the threat of spread of coronavirus, are not ready to accept the expatriates. Only Kerala has prepared.
Only those who have received a Covid Negative Certificate from the country they currently reside in can return. There will be inspection at the departing airport. Upon arrival in India, they will be tested here and sent to quarantine.
