BELGRADE: Belgrade and Moscow are connected not only by their traditional friendship but by fraternal bonds, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said.
"Serbia and Russia are bound by traditional friendship and brotherhood. We have managed to save face in difficult conditions," Vucic said during his visit to the Russian House, the Russian Center for Science and Culture located in Belgrade.
Russia’s Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko and the Director of the Russian House, Yevgeny Baranov, showed the head of state the Russian House’s library and presented him with a library card. Vucic also left a message in the Book of Honored Guests, which has been kept since 1933 and preserves the good wishes of King Alexander, Fyodor Chaliapin and Patriarch Barnabas. In his message, the president expressed his confidence in the further development of relations between the two countries. "I wish you good luck and success," the president wrote in Russian.
Russian House head Baranov also presented the president with a painting by Anatoly Ivakin depicting the Russian House in Belgrade. In response, Vucic said that he intended to hang it in the presidential palace. "The next time you visit me, you will see it in the presidential palace," he pointed out.
"Russian culture, namely literature, fine arts, sculpture and many other areas of culture, are tops in the world," the Serbian president emphasized. "I appreciate Dostoyevsky the most among all writers in the world," the Serbian leader said.
"President Vucic, accompanied by Ambassador Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko and Director of the Russian House Yevgeny Baranov, viewed the oldest books kept in the library of the Russian House. He visited the exhibition hall and told a story about how he used to go there as a child. The head of state also recalled how at the age of four or five he watched the cartoon ‘The Humpbacked Horse’ with his father," the press service of the Russian House told TASS.
At the end of his visit, Vucic thanked everyone for the warm welcome in Russian and took a photo with the staff of the Russian House. Earlier, the Serbian leader emphasized that Serbia would follow an independent policy, continue its way to the EU and maintain traditional friendly relations with Russia and China, no matter what anyone else thinks.
