BISHKEK: Head of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiyev and his Tajik counterpart Saimumin Yatimov have a signed a protocol in Bishkek on delimiting the shared section of the border, the press service of the Kyrgyz cabinet of ministers told TASS.
"The signing of a protocol on delimiting the border between the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan took place, Tashiyev signed the document on behalf of the Kyrgyz side, Yatimov represented Tajikistan," a spokesman said.
The border issue has been causing multiple conflicts between local residents and the military from both sides, including with the use of firearms, with the most recent one flaring up in the fall of 2022. Overall, since 2014, more than 10 serious conflicts have erupted on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
Kyrgyzstan is bordering China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, with Tajikistan being the last neighboring country with which Kyrgyzstan had unresolved border issues.
