CHISINAU: Deputy Head of Moldova’s autonomous region of Gagauzia Viktor Petrov has stated that he was temporarily held at Chisinau’s airport on orders from the country’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
"Upon arrival in Chisinau from Istanbul, I was detained at the airport for three hours. It turned out during my conversation with border police officers that Prime Minister Recean himself had ordered that I be searched," Petrov wrote on Telegram.
Gagauzia’s head Evghenia Gutsul condemned Petrov’s detention as an act of political terrorism by the Moldovan authorities.
She pointed out that the Gagauzian leadership would contact its international partners, including Russia and Turkey, urging them to take note of "the repressions committed by Chisinau."
