BERLIN:  An unidentified assailant opened fire outside a courthouse in the German city of Bielefeld, injuring several people, the Bild newspaper reported, citing eyewitnesses.

The incident occurred as the court was hearing the case of the murder of professional boxer Besar Nimani. Police and rescue services are working at the scene. Eyewitnesses told the newspaper that several people were lying on the ground after the shooting.

According to the report, the security guard said there was one shooter. However, the newspaper said there could be two attackers, with one of them detained and the other possibly having escaped from the police.

The defendant in the murder case is Huseyin Akkurt, who was detained in Brussels last June. Two of his suspected accomplices remain at large.
