SEOUL: The current international situation in which "bloodshed has become commonplace" requires the Korean People's Army maintain impeccable combat readiness, the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is quoted by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
"Comrade Kim Jong Un stressed that the present international situation, in which the aggressive and bellicose nature of the imperialists is most openly expressed in history and war and bloodshed become commonplaces, requires the armed forces to perfectly cope with a war," the KCNA says.
On February 25, Kim Jong Un inspected the Kang Gon Combined Arms Military Academy, the "main military school" which "forges military cadres" in the DPRK. Kang Gon was the first chief of the KPA General Staff. The DPRK leader also ordered to put an emphasis on practice in military training and include classes in "the experience of modern warfare" in the training of cadets.
The General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea visited the Kim Il Sung Political Institute on February 24, where he said that "armaments without ideology are just a pile of metal."
For its part, Seoul said the DPRK was likely to become more active in military activities this year, as Kim Jong Un called 2025 "the year of training" on the anniversary of the establishment of the Korean People's Army on February 8.
