LONDON: Ukraine is ready to sign a minerals deal with the US, Vladimir Zelensky said, referring to the agreement that was scheduled to be signed during his visit to the White House.
"It is out policy to continue what happened in the past, we’re constructive," he said. "If we agreed to sign the minerals deal, we’re ready to sign it."
"The agreement that’s on the table will be signed if the parties are ready," he went on to say.
On February 28, Zelensky met with Trump at the White House. Their televised exchange suddenly unraveled into a shouting match, with Trump scolding Zelensky for being disrespectful to the US, and Vice President JD Vance saying that Zelensky had never thanked the country for all the support provided to Kiev. A news conference scheduled to follow the meeting was canceled. The US president posted a statement to Truth Social, telling off Zelensky for being disrespectful and not ready for peace.
Ukraine and the US planned to conclude a minerals deal during that visit. According to Reuters, the decision to cancel the signing was made by the American leader. On March 2, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US was no longer planning to sign the deal.
